View Full Version : Multiple domains sharing zone file?

Hello,
I am considering signing up for your service, but have one question that comes to mind right now -
Can I have multiple domains sharing the same zone file? I've got 5 domain names, three of which are for the same website. I would much rather sign up for your 3-host program than the 5-host program. I like to have my cake, and eat it too ;)
Is this a possibility, or am I going to need to drop more $$$ to point my 3-names to one website, and have two other 1-name websites running?
Thanks,
Wes.

You may have your cake and eat it. With a fork tho. So as not to make a mess. :laughing:
That's fine.
It's 3 individual domains on plan 1.
Do you have any further questions?

Please excuse my thick-headedness, but when you say: "It's 3 individual domains on plan 1", I'm still not clear as to what you mean.
Are you saying that I could have the following:
first.com \
first.org >---> One subdirecory, say ~user/one/
second.com /
third.com >---> Another subdirectory ~user/two/
fourth.com >---> A third subdirectory ~user/three/
All of this, covered under Multiple Hosts Plan 1?
Thanks Again,
Wes.

That's confused me now...
I'll try and explain.
You can host www.microsoft.com, www.nvidia.com, www.macromedia.com with the 3 domain plan.
That is 3 seperate domains (3 seperate websites).
but you can have unlimited domains pointing to 1 website.
www.microsoft.co.uk, www.microsoft.net, www.microsoft.org all pointing to the .com.
I've used microsoft and others are examples. nothing more.
That clear it up a bit? I've actually just realised it is quite confusing.

One more clarification, then I believe that you will have made a buyer of me -
> but you can have unlimited domains pointing to 1 website.
> www.microsoft.co.uk, www.microsoft.net, www.microsoft.org
> all pointing to the .com.
You only use microsoft.* in this example. Could my unlimited domain names pointing to 1 website be microsoft.* AND othernames.*, or must the unlimited domain names all carry the same general name (is there even a word specifically for the domain-name part of domain-name.org?!?)
It is definitely confusing that you have used the words website and domain interchangably in your explanation. Sorry to split hairs, I just like to be certain.
So to sum it up: I can have the names microsoft.com, microsoft.org, and billgates.net pointing to the 1st of my 3 websites, nvidia.net pointing the 2nd of my 3 websites, and macromedia.com pointing to the 3rd of my 3 websites?
microsoft, billgates, nvidia, and macromedia all used ONLY as examples, as per your protocol ;)
Thanks YET again,
Wes.

They could be anything.
Yes, you can have microsoft, microsoft and bill all pointing to your site. I think that'd be illegal, but there you go :D.
All making sense? :) .
